WEBINARS
Autumn - Winter 2024

We welcome you to our third series of webinars!

"Our Luminaries: Prominent Liturgical Music Personalities of the Second Half of the 20th Century"

Dear friends!

Almost everyone interested in church singing knows about the composers and choir directors of the first half of the 20th century (especially the Moscow School / New Direction). The contribution of these luminaries to the development of spiritual culture is generally recognized, although historical research into their lives and works is ongoing.

However, until now there has been no systematic attempt to assess the creative legacy of the next generations of church musicians who worked both in emigration (European and American) and in their homeland. Yet, in recent years, their compositions are being performed increasingly by parish choirs, almost on an equal footing with the great masters of the last century: Arkhangelsky, Chesnokov, Kastalsky and others.

Our committee presents a series of webinars dedicated to the main figures in the field of church singing who worked both in the territory of the former Soviet Union and abroad in the latter half of the 20 th century. We will discuss Archimandrite Matthew (Mormyl), Deacon Sergiy Trubachev, the Kedrov dynasty, Boris Mikhailovich Ledkovsky, Mikhail Sergeyevich Konstantinov and other prominent composers and choir directors, whose legacy we are only now beginning to comprehend.

The series opens with the first bloc of webinars entitled "In the Fatherland":

"Archimandrite Matthew (Mormyl)", by Ekaterina Sadikova;

"Deacon Sergiy Trubachev", by Fr. Mikhail Asmus;

November 27 at 8 p.m. "A new generation of singers and choir directors in Russia at the end of the 20th century", by Valery Kashlyaev.

Webinars of the second bloc "Abroad: Western Europe":

December 11 at 7 p.m. "Ivan Alekseevich Gardner", by Elena Perekrestov;

December 27 at 7 p.m. "Evgeny Ivanovitch Evets", by Nicholas Ganson.

Future webinar dates for two other blocs in the series ("Abroad: Western Europe" and "Abroad: USA") will be announced.

We hope you will find them useful and helpful. Enjoy!
