WEBINARS
Autumn - Winter 2024

We welcome you to our third series of webinars!

"Our Luminaries: Prominent Liturgical Music Personalities of the Second Half of the 20th Century"

Dear friends!

Almost everyone interested in church singing knows about the composers of the first half of the 20th century (especially the Moscow School / New Direction). The contribution of these composers and choir directors to the development of spiritual culture is generally recognized, although historical research into their lives and works is ongoing.

However, until now there has been no systematic attempt to assess the creative legacy of the next two or three generations of church musicians who worked both in emigration (European and American) and in their homeland. Yet, in recent years, their compositions are being performed increasingly by parish choirs, almost on an equal footing with the giants of the last century: Arkhangelsky, Chesnokov, Kastalsky and others.

Our committee presents a series of webinars dedicated to the main figures in the field of church singing who worked both in the territory of the former Soviet Union and abroad in the latter half of the 20 th century. We will discuss Archimandrite Matthew (Mormyl), Deacon Sergiy Trubachev, the Kedrov dynasty, Boris Mikhailovich Ledkovsky, Mikhail Sergeyevich Konstantinov and other prominent composers and choir directors, whose legacy we are only now beginning to comprehend.

The series opens with the first bloc of webinars entitled "In the Fatherland":

October 10 "Archimandrite Matthew (Mormyl)", by Ekaterina Sadikova;

November 7 "Deacon Sergiy Trubachev", by Fr. Mikhail Asmus.

The meetings will begin at 19:00 (Central European time).

Future webibar dates for two other blocs in the series ("Abroad: Western Europe" and "Abroad: USA") will be announced.

We hope you will find them useful and helpful. Enjoy!
